Geography
At Longford Park our Geography curriculum is designed to recognise children’s existing knowledge and embrace the school’s ethos of Believe, Belong, Become.
In Geography, we aim to inspire the pupil’s curiosity and fascination about the world and it’s people.
Our curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to learn about diverse places, people and resources as well as natural and human environments. The Earth’s key physical and human processes, the formation and use of landscapes and environments will also be explored.
Children will learn a variety of geographical skills and use them to collect and analyse a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork, maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs, geographical information systems, numeral and quantitative skills and extended writing.
Lessons will offer opportunities for pupils to develop their social skills as well as their ability to communicate and work cooperatively with their peers.
Children will start by learning about their local area and then move on to discovering the world’s seas, oceans and continents. As children move to Key Stage 2, they will learn more about rivers, mountains and coasts as well as climates, biomes and diverse locations around the world.
