History

History is the study of what has already happened and it is intended to help and shape our future; when we learn history it shows us how to behave in the future. From Ancient Egypt and Rome to the Anglo Saxons and World War II, the history curriculum is not only wide and varied but is taught in a wide variety of ways in order to bring history to life. The children learn skills whilst studying history such a how to interpret facts and learn important dates of significant historical events. In addition, the children learn about interesting events and influences from across the world that shaped Britain today. Each topic within history is tailored to every year group to suit their needs but also to challenge them into critical thinking about key events. The curriculum is shaped so that the children can have a secure knowledge base and are able to embrace topics within history that might be challenging. Our history curriculum is also shaped by our school vision of Believe, Belong and Become in which we know that if the children understand their history and have confidence in themselves and their voice and they can use their knowledge to become the best that they can be and shape the community around them.
